GLB 3D Models

GLB is the single-file binary form of glTF, the 3D format made for the web. Upload a GLB to 3DRise and build an interactive scene around it.

GLB is the binary form of glTF, the open 3D format designed for delivering models on the web. One .glb file holds everything the model needs: its meshes, materials, textures and the hierarchy of its parts, packed into a single compact file. It is the format to choose when you bring your own model into 3DRise.

Why GLB for the web

glTF was built to load quickly in browsers and real-time engines, and it describes materials in physical terms, base colour, metalness and roughness, so a model looks the way you set it up. Packing it into one binary file means one download and nothing to go missing, and it is smaller than the text form. Models compressed with Draco, which shrinks geometry a long way, load in the studio as they are.

In the studio

Upload a .glb of up to 50MB from the objects panel, or paste a link to one. Once it is in the scene you can:

  • place, rotate and scale it like any object
  • apply a library material to the whole model, or open its parts and tweak or replace each part's material
  • hide parts, or move, rotate and scale them inside the model
  • put object effects on the whole model or on single parts, run by a click, the cursor or an action

Name your parts before you export: per-part changes are stored by part name. Compare with the text form, GLTF.
