Ember ash burns an object the way wood or paper burns. A dull red front creeps over the surface and chars it to charcoal, embers glow and breathe in the cracks just behind the front, the charcoal pales to grey ash, and the ash breaks off in flakes that the wind carries away. Reversed, the flakes blow back and the object un-burns.
How it works
The surface is sampled into thousands of flakes, and each one leaves at the moment the ash reaches its spot. The flakes speed up along the wind, curl in slow turbulence and lift a little on the heat. Most are grey; about one in six still glows and cools as it flies. The front stays a dull red line, never white-hot, which is what makes it read as a real fire rather than a sci-fi dissolve.
Settings
- Burn direction: bottom to top by default; also scattered, top down, centre out or sideways. - Wind: left to right, right to left, or Rising. Wind strength sets how hard it blows. - Ember colour: the glow in the cracks and in the hot flakes. - Ash flakes and Flake size: how many flakes, and how big. - Burn pattern: the scale of the charred patches. - Duration: 4 seconds by default.
Use it for
Dramatic exits, a letter or photo that burns in an editorial scene, a logo that turns to ash. The lighter version is Dissolve; to leave burning copies behind a moving object, use the Ash trail.
More object effects
Curl smoke
Turn a 3D object into soft smoke that swirls away in eddies, or keep it as living smoke in its own shape.
Object effectAsh trail
A moving 3D object leaves copies that burn from within along a glowing ember front and are gone.
Object effectBlast off
Crouch, then launch straight up and out of the scene — it comes back with a powered landing: falls in, brakes hard, hovers, touches down
Object effectDissolve
Burn any 3D object away along a glowing edge, then grow it back. A dissolve effect for clicks, hovers, entrances and exits.
Object effectFly-by
Takes off, banks and flies past the camera — it comes back from behind the camera on the other side and sets down in place
Object effectHeat cracks
Crack a 3D object with glowing lava seams that sink into the surface and char it, while the glow breathes. Reverse cools it.
Object effectWorks well with
Grinder Sparks
Slow-motion sparks from a grinder cutting steel: white-hot arcs that cool to red, burst into stars and bounce off the floor. The cursor moves or aims it.
Particle systemSmoke
Animated smoke materials: a rising column that curls into billows, or a twisting ribbon of wispy smoke. Translucent, endless, no code.
MaterialSmoke
A rising smoke column material: a thin thread that curls into billows and fades into the air, shaded by its own density. For chimneys and fires.
SmokeSmoke Plume
A buoyant plume following Morton-Taylor-Turner theory, with curl-noise billows, lit puffs and an optional hot base and crosswind. Use for chimneys, fires, volcanoes, engines.
EffectBurn Away
Letters cut from singed cream paper with smouldering embers; the erase is a combustion front travelling along the strokes leaving glowing edge, cracked char and ash. Use for dramatic reveals, titles and storytelling.
