Frost

A print behind a pane of real glass; a change is a breath of frost that feathers in from the edges, blurs the print through the glass, and clears from the centre to reveal the new picture; the cursor wipes the glass. Use for winter, luxury, beauty and calm editorial.

Frost puts your picture behind a pane of real glass, with a small gap between them. A picture change is a breath on the glass: frost feathers in from the edges, the print changes behind the fully frosted pane, then the frost clears from the centre outward to reveal the new picture.

How it works

The glass genuinely blurs what is behind it as it frosts, so the print, and anything else behind the pane, softens and refracts through the glass. The frost grows in feathery fronts rather than a flat fade. At rest a fine rim of frost stays at the edges and breathes. Both the print and the glass are lit by your scene, and object effects work on it.

Settings

  • Gap sets the distance between the print and the glass, for parallax and refraction.
  • Frost sets how frosted the glass gets during a change; Whiteness how white it scatters, from a clear blur to milky frost.
  • Feather sets how feathery the front is; Rim how much frost stays at the edges at rest.
  • Refrost sets how many seconds a wiped trail takes to frost over again.
  • Frost colour tints the frost.

Cursor

Wipe lets the cursor clear the glass like a finger, and the trail frosts back over; Fog breathes frost onto it.

Lenticular

A lenticular print: fine lenses over interleaved strips of the old and new picture; a change sweeps the flip across the sheet and depends on the viewing angle, with ribbed clearcoat highlights from the scene light. Use for collectibles, posters, fashion and retail.

Pinscreen

The picture as a pinscreen of fine metal pins, each standing out by the brightness under it with a domed head in the picture's colour; a change is a pressure wave that sinks the pins and raises the new relief. Use for tech, product and sculptural heroes.

Prism

The picture printed across a row of slim triangular prisms; a change turns each prism a third of a turn in a travelling wave, its faces passing through the scene light, to show the next picture. Use for signage, retail, product and campaign heroes.

Relief

The picture embossed into paper by its own local contrast and lit by the scene; a change is a soft press travelling across the sheet, flattening the old impression and raising the new one as its ink lays down. Use for editorial, print, craft and product heroes.

Roll

A print on paper; a change is a slim paper roll travelling across it, winding up the old print and laying down the new one, lit and shadowed by the scene. Use for editorial, stationery, packaging and calm product heroes.

Contour

The picture as a topographic map of itself: a change opens it into hairline contour lines that lift into a floating stack in depth and flow continuously into the new picture's contours before it fills back in. Use for tech, data, science and architecture.
