Flip is a proper little jump. The object crouches, springs up, does a full flip in the air about its centre, and lands with a squash, ending exactly where it started. It is a single move: the object stays in the scene and returns to rest.

How it works

The move has three parts. First a crouch, squashing down at the base and releasing, the anticipation that makes a jump believable. Then a hop on a real arc, with the full turn eased so it seems to hang at the top. Finally a landing squash that rings out once. Squash and stretch keep the object's volume, so it widens as it squashes. Triggering it again restarts the jump.

Settings

  • Flip: forward, sideways, or a twist about its upright axis.
  • Jump height: how high it hops, as a share of its own height.
  • Backwards: flips the other way round.
  • Duration: the length of the whole jump.

Use it for

Click feedback, characters and mascots, game-like menus, product reveals that show the back of an item, and moments of celebration. Run it on click or hover, as part of an action or animation, or on the object itself; with the playback set to Reverse or Yoyo the jump plays backwards in time. For a turn without the jump, use Spin; for continuous hopping, Bounce.
