Wallpaper Grid
Kaleidoscope patterns with the exact symmetry of the 17 wallpaper groups, drifting and cycling from one group to the next. Use for tiled, ornamental, crystal and mosaic floors.

The Wallpaper Grid is a kaleidoscope with rules. It draws a flowing, contoured pattern that repeats with the exact symmetry of one of the seventeen wallpaper groups, the complete list of ways a pattern can repeat across a flat surface. By default it cycles through all seventeen, crossfading from one to the next, so the same motif reappears with new mirrors, glides and rotations.
How it works
A soft motif made of a few overlapping waves is copied once for every move in the chosen symmetry group and the copies are added together. The sum has precisely that group's mirrors, glide lines and centres of rotation, and tiles without a seam. Contour lines are drawn through the result, the bands between them are shaded like terraces cut in steps, and the peaks glow warm while the troughs sink into the cell colour. With Section Width above 0 the symmetry lines are traced too: solid for true mirrors, dashed for glides.
Settings
- Group picks one of the seventeen groups, or -1 to cycle through them all.
- Cycle Time is the number of seconds each group is shown while cycling.
- Motif sets how complex the repeating shape is.
- Levels is the number of contour lines.
- Displace turns the pattern into a carved relief.
Use it for
Textile, fashion and interior brands, tiles and ornament, crystal and mineral themes and maths education. See also the Girih Grid and the Quasicrystal Grid.
Code and API
Ready-to-paste React Three Fiber code and the 3DRise API are included in paid plans, inside the studio.
More grids
Girih Grid
Islamic star-and-rosette strapwork built by Hankin polygons-in-contact: rays leave every edge midpoint at the contact angle and close into interlaced stars. Use for ornament, palace, mosaic and ritual floors.
Hyperbolic Grid
An Escher-style {p,q} tiling of the Poincaré disk that glides through itself; tiles shrink endlessly toward the rim. Use for mystical, mathematical and portal floors.
Chladni Grid
Vibrating Chladni plates: sand settles on the nodal lines of a standing wave that drifts between resonances. Use for sound, music, science and meditative floors.
Flow Net Grid
A potential-flow net around a cylinder: streamlines and equipotentials cross at right angles and bend around the obstacle. Use for aerodynamic, fluid and engineering floors.
Grav Wave Grid
A spacetime lattice around an inspiralling black-hole binary: the wells pinch the grid and chirping quadrupole waves spiral outward until the merger rings down. Use for space, physics and sci-fi floors.
Reaction Diffusion Grid
A living Gray-Scott reaction-diffusion field: coral, labyrinths and dividing spots grow across the plane and never settle. Use for organic, biological and alien floors.

The six standard 3D surface materials, from unlit flat color to physically based paint, clearcoat and cel shading. How each one takes light.
MaterialBasic Material
An unlit 3D material: flat color or image that ignores every light in the scene. For UI panels, flat graphics and exact brand colors.
BasicBlack Onyx
A glossy, near-black stone with only a hint of translucency, for dark, dramatic luxury and editorial scenes.
CrystalCrystal
Twelve gemstone materials for 3D scenes: diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald, amethyst, opal, jade, onyx and more, for any shape, model or 3D text.
