Painterly Bold is the most contrasted painted cloud: a cool blue-white base with warm golden highlights, broken into a busy brush-stroke pattern. Of the three painterly variants it has the strongest color difference between base and highlight.

How it works

A slow cloud noise sets where the clouds are, with transparent gaps between them. A finer stroke pattern on top roughens their edges and shifts their color between Base Color and Highlight Color. Here the base leans blue and the highlight leans gold, so the strokes read as warm light on cool cloud. Brush Size is the largest and Brush Strokes the lowest of the three; together they give the densest stroke pattern of the painterly variants.

Settings

  • Base Color and Highlight Color carry the contrast; push them further apart for a more expressive look.
  • Brush Size and Brush Strokes together set how many strokes cover the surface: lower either for fewer, broader ones.

Use it for

Expressive illustrated skies, poster and album art, gallery and art-direction pieces, and campaigns that want a painted look with punch. For the balanced version see Painterly Impressionist; for dramatic photo clouds, Sunset Dramatic.
