Vinyl is a dark charcoal plastic with a soft gloss. It looks like vinyl upholstery, a car dashboard, a faux-leather surface or sheet flooring: smooth, slightly shiny and quietly durable.
How it looks
Roughness is 0.35, on the smooth side, so lights leave visible but soft highlights that roll across curved surfaces such as cushions or seat backs. Env Map Intensity is 0.6, a clear but blurred reflection of the surroundings in a scene with environment lighting. On a dark base colour, those highlights carry most of the shape, which gives vinyl objects the sheen of leather-look upholstery.
Settings
- Color: charcoal by default. Deep reds, browns and creams give a retro diner or car-interior look.
- Roughness: raise it to 0.55 for a softer, more leather-like finish; lower it toward 0.15 for patent vinyl.
- Env Map Intensity: increase it for a polished, wet look; decrease it for a worn surface.
Use it for
Upholstered seats and booths, car interiors, flooring, bags and accessories, record and retro styling, and any dark, soft surface that should catch light without looking like hard plastic. Pair it with chrome or brass trim for a retro look. For a fully matte dark surface see Rubber; for a brighter shiny plastic, Glossy Plastic.
