Frost spreads ice over an object along a feathery front. The surface turns to faceted crystal: glossy where the ice is clear, rough and white where frost crusts along the seams between facets, with glints that catch the light cell by cell. It is a state, not an exit: the object stays frozen while the effect is on, and reversing thaws it.

How it works

The facets form a 3D cellular pattern fixed to the object itself, so they wrap any shape and never slide when it moves. The colour and roughness change before the scene's lights are applied, so the ice is lit by the scene like a real material rather than painted on top. Frost replaces the look of the whole surface, so it never runs together with Metalize or Petrify on the same object.

Settings

- Ice: the tint of the ice, pale blue by default. - Crystals: how many facets across the object. Few for big chunky crystals, many for fine frost. - Direction: bottom to top by default; Scattered makes frost bloom in patches. - Front pattern: the scale of the spreading edge. - Duration: 2.6 seconds.

Use it for

Winter campaigns, cold drinks and cooling products, fantasy ice spells, a hover that freezes a product in place. Pair it with the Ice Crystals effect, or use the Frost trail for freezing copies behind a moving object.
