Petrify turns an object to weathered stone, like a statue. A fine grey line spreads over the surface and behind it the object becomes granite: grain, speckle and darker crevices, with a trace of the original light and dark values kept so its details still read. It is a state, not an exit: the object stays stone while the effect is on, and reversing brings it back to life.
How it works
The stone colour and the roughness change before the scene's lights are applied, so the scene lights the object as matte stone rather than painted plastic. Because some of the original light and dark survives, a face, a logo or a printed pattern is still recognisable once it has turned. Petrify replaces the look of the whole surface, so it never runs together with Metalize or Frost on the same object.
Settings
- Stone: the stone colour, a warm grey by default. Darker for basalt, paler for limestone. - Direction: bottom to top by default, so the stone climbs like a curse; Scattered turns it in patches. - Front pattern: the scale of the spreading edge. - Duration: 2.4 seconds.
Use it for
Myth and fantasy moments, museum and heritage pages, a statue mode for a character or product, a hover that freezes a figure in stone. For heat splitting the surface open instead, see Heat cracks; to let nature take the statue back, add Ivy.
