Rainbow places a single, physically correct rainbow in your scene. It appears where a real one would, centred on the point opposite the sun, and it is seen through the object's volume as if that space were filled with fine, invisible drops: strongest where you look through the most of it and fading softly toward its edges.
How it works
The colours are worked out from how light bends inside a water drop, wavelength by wavelength across the visible spectrum, so the order and width of the bands are right. Inside the main bow sit the faint extra fringes you see in a real rainbow, and their spacing depends on the size of the drops: big drops give a narrow, vivid bow, small drops widen and pale it, and fog-sized drops wash it into a white fogbow. It follows the scene's sun and, as in nature, is gone when the sun is below the horizon or higher than about 42 degrees.
Settings
- Drop Size: from a white fogbow to a vivid bow.
- Secondary: adds the second, fainter bow outside the first, with its colours reversed.
- Color: a tint; white keeps the pure spectrum.
The cursor can be a mist spray that brightens the stretch of bow under it, a clearing that wipes it away, or a polarising filter that fades it as it turns.
Use it for
After-the-rain moments, hopeful and playful brand scenes and kids' content. Pair it with Rain and a sky.
Code and API
Ready-to-paste React Three Fiber code and the 3DRise API are included in paid plans, inside the studio.
More environment effects
Rain
Rain streaks falling through the object's volume, pushed sideways by the wind and scattered by turbulence. Use for rainy, moody and weather scenes.
Sandstorm
A haboob: billowing dust under a scale-height profile, gust fronts that roll downwind as towering walls, and saltating grains streaking along the ground, lit by forward-scattered sun. The cursor is a windbreak, a dust devil or a gust. Use for desert, ash and Mars scenes.
Snow
Snowfall with physical flakes: size-dependent terminal fall, helical flutter and tumbling dendrite crystals that glint in the sun, swept by travelling gusts and snow bands. The cursor is a gust, a shelter or a warm hand. Use for winter and weather scenes.
Thunderstorm
A thunderstorm without the rain (rain is its own object): dark storm curtains drifting on the wind, and lightning arriving as a Poisson process of multi-stroke flashes that light the curtains and the whole scene. The cursor calls a strike or clears the murk. Use for storm, noir and dramatic scenes.
Tornado
A standalone tornado as a Rankine vortex: a condensation funnel on a wandering, rope-like axis with helical streaks that wind by differential rotation and climb on the updraft, and ground dust spiralling in and swirling up a sheath around it. The cursor steers it, feeds it or bends it with a gust. Use for storm and drama scenes.
Works well with

An aurora cursor: a ribbon of northern lights trails the mouse, flowing green, cyan and magenta. For night, nature, winter and dreamy scenes.
