Thunderstorm brings the darkness of a storm and its lightning into your scene. Tall, ragged curtains of storm murk lean with the wind and drift slowly through the object's volume, and every so often lightning flashes inside them, lighting the curtains near the strike and every object in the scene. It has no rain of its own, so you add exactly the rain you want.
How it works
Flashes arrive at random intervals around the rate you set, never on a regular beat. Each flash is two to five quick strokes a fraction of a second apart, with a sharp attack and a fast fade: the flicker that makes lightning read as lightning. A real light is placed at each strike, so the objects in the scene flash with it. The bolt itself is not drawn; for a visible bolt use the Lightning effect.
Settings
- Flash Rate: lightning flashes per minute.
- Flash Intensity and Flash Color: how bright the flashes are, and their colour.
- Density and Shafts: how thick and how visible the storm curtains are.
- Wind Strength, Wind Direction and Turbulence: how the curtains drift, and how ragged they are.
- Color and Shade Color: the curtains in the light and their storm-dark tint.
The cursor can call a strike wherever you sweep it, or clear a column through the murk.
Use it for
Storm, noir and horror scenes, album art and launches that need a jolt. Add Rain beneath it.
Code and API
Ready-to-paste React Three Fiber code and the 3DRise API are included in paid plans, inside the studio.
More environment effects
Rain
Rain streaks falling through the object's volume, pushed sideways by the wind and scattered by turbulence. Use for rainy, moody and weather scenes.
Tornado
A standalone tornado as a Rankine vortex: a condensation funnel on a wandering, rope-like axis with helical streaks that wind by differential rotation and climb on the updraft, and ground dust spiralling in and swirling up a sheath around it. The cursor steers it, feeds it or bends it with a gust. Use for storm and drama scenes.
Rainbow
A single physical rainbow on its own: water dispersion and an Airy profile with supernumerary fringes, centred opposite the sun and seen through the object’s volume. The cursor sprays, clears or polarises it. Use for after-rain and hopeful scenes.
Sandstorm
A haboob: billowing dust under a scale-height profile, gust fronts that roll downwind as towering walls, and saltating grains streaking along the ground, lit by forward-scattered sun. The cursor is a windbreak, a dust devil or a gust. Use for desert, ash and Mars scenes.
Snow
Snowfall with physical flakes: size-dependent terminal fall, helical flutter and tumbling dendrite crystals that glint in the sun, swept by travelling gusts and snow bands. The cursor is a gust, a shelter or a warm hand. Use for winter and weather scenes.
Works well with
Storm Brewing
Gathering storm clouds with moderate intensity and building tension
EffectStorm Intense
Intense dark storm clouds with high turbulence and frequent lightning strikes
EffectStorm Violent
Extremely violent storm clouds with maximum turbulence and constant lightning
EffectPlasma Lightning
A lightning cursor: electric bolts strike in toward the mouse pointer, flash and fade, with a new shape every strike. For tech, gaming and energy brands.
CursorSky Clouds Stormy
Dark grey, heavy animated storm clouds that churn and drift fast. A brooding storm sky for dramatic and moody 3D scenes.
CloudAurora Ribbon Trail
An aurora cursor: a ribbon of northern lights trails the mouse, flowing green, cyan and magenta. For night, nature, winter and dreamy scenes.
