Aurora hangs curtains of coloured light over an object, like the northern lights: three to ten translucent ribbons on an arc, waving and shimmering while the whole fan slowly turns. The colours run from green through teal and cyan to violet.

How it works

Each ribbon is a tall, soft-edged sheet bent by three waves of different length and speed, plus a smaller wave front to back. Every ribbon has its own phase, so the curtains move against each other instead of together, and because the waves share no common rhythm the motion never visibly repeats. Bright bands run up each ribbon to imitate the vertical rays of a real aurora. The sheets fade out at the top, bottom and sides, and their hue drifts slowly upward and over time. Nothing here is a texture or a video: the curtains are drawn live, and they stay light enough for a page background.

Settings

  • Ribbon Count: how many curtains are in the fan.
  • Arc Width: from a narrow column of ribbons to a full circle around the object.
  • Wave Amplitude: how much the curtains swing and fold.
  • Color Shift: moves the whole palette around the colour wheel, so a green aurora can turn pink or blue.
  • Speed: the waving and the slow turning of the fan.

Use it for

Polar and winter scenes, calm magical backdrops, music visuals. Pair it with the Aurora Ribbon Trail cursor or a dark sky.
