Quantum Orbitals shows the electron cloud of a hydrogen atom as thousands of glowing particles. It takes the lobed shapes of the textbook orbitals, but here it moves: two orbitals are mixed, so the cloud slowly breathes and turns while every particle flows along its own path.
How it works
The particles start out spread exactly like the electron's probability cloud and then follow the flow of the wave itself, so they keep the cloud's shape however it changes. Their colour comes from the phase of the wave at each point and cycles between two colours, which makes the bands inside the cloud visible.
Settings
- State A and State B: the two orbitals, from 1s up to the 4f shapes.
- Mix: how much of the second orbital is in the blend.
- Time Scale: how fast the cloud breathes and circulates.
- Cloud Density: the brightness of the background haze.
- Phase Fronts: glowing surfaces inside the cloud where the phase is the same.
- Color and Phase Color: the two ends of the phase cycle.
The cursor can be a photon source that swings the atom back and forth between the two states while it shines, a magnet that makes the whole cloud precess, or a detector that clicks where the electron is found and briefly gathers the cloud into a packet at that spot.
Use it for

Code and API
Ready-to-paste React Three Fiber code and the 3DRise API are included in paid plans, inside the studio.
More particle systems
Chladni Sand
Sand on an invisible vibrating plate: resonant plate modes throw grains onto the nodal lines, drawing Chladni figures that form and re-form; the cursor bows, touches or taps the plate. Use for science, sound and abstract scenes.
Shape Flow
A wind tunnel of particle streams flowing round an invisible mesh shape: divergence-free flow, wake eddies, streaklines coloured by pressure; the cursor is a second obstacle, a jet or a vortex. Use for tech, aero and product scenes.
Sea Sparkle
Bioluminescent plankton that flash when the water shears: swell orbits, excitable cells that tire and recover, moon glitter; the cursor is a hand, falling pebbles or a hunting fish. Use for night sea and fantasy scenes.
Sunbeam Dust
Dust drifting in window light: Langevin motion in Kolmogorov turbulence, mullion shadows, forward scattering, glints and bokeh; the cursor is a hand, a torch or a charged rod. Use for interiors and cinematic scenes.
Faraday Powder
Glowing powder on an invisible vibrating plate: acoustic streaming gathers it into swirling heaps at the antinodes, hotter where the plate moves most; the cursor bows, touches or taps the plate. Use for abstract, sound and fire-like scenes.
Fireworks
An aerial fireworks show: 20 real shell types, shaped shells, formations and text written in the sky, with drag-limited stars, cooling sparks and lit smoke; fires on its own or where you click. Use for celebrations, New Year and night-sky scenes.
Works well with
Tesla Discharge
A Tesla cursor: a bright spark at the mouse with a thin charged line behind it, pulses of energy running along it. For tech, science and electric brands.
CursorAura Glow
An aura glow cursor: a soft iridescent halo with electric tendrils that follows the mouse. For wellness, magic and dreamy scenes.
CursorComet Trail
A 3D comet cursor: a glowing head with a fading tail of light that follows the mouse across your scene. For space, sci-fi and night sites.
CursorEnergy Orb
An energy orb cursor: a small boiling sun with iridescent plasma shells that follows the mouse. For sci-fi, energy and magic scenes.
CursorFerrofluid
A ferrofluid cursor: a glossy blob of magnetic liquid that grows spikes in the direction you move the mouse. For science, tech and dark luxury.
