Faraday Powder
Glowing powder on an invisible vibrating plate: acoustic streaming gathers it into swirling heaps at the antinodes, hotter where the plate moves most; the cursor bows, touches or taps the plate. Use for abstract, sound and fire-like scenes.

Faraday Powder is the twin of Chladni Sand. The same invisible vibrating plate is covered with light, glowing powder instead of sand, and the powder does the opposite: rather than fleeing the moving areas, it gathers on them in small swirling heaps that hover above the plate and glow hotter where the shaking is strongest.
How it works
Faraday described this in 1831: powder too fine to be thrown about is carried by tiny currents in the air above the plate toward the spots that move most. Here each heap floats at a height set by how hard its spot shakes and turns slowly, with neighbouring heaps spinning in opposite directions. Resting powder is a dim ember of the base colour; powder churning in a strong spot heats toward the glow colour, so dense heaps bloom.
Settings
- Frequency, Sweep and Damping: which figure rings, how far the note glides and how pure the figures are.
- Amplitude: how hard the plate shakes the powder.
- Hover and Swirl: how high the heaps float and how fast they turn.
- Color and Glow Color: resting and churning powder.
As with Chladni Sand, the cursor can bow the edge of the plate, touch it with a finger so the heaps migrate to a new figure, or tap it to blow the powder up in an expanding ring.
Use it for
Abstract, sound and fire-like visuals and music releases. Compare it with Chladni Sand or browse all particles.

Ready-to-paste React Three Fiber code and the 3DRise API are included in paid plans, inside the studio.
More particle systems
Chladni Sand
Sand on an invisible vibrating plate: resonant plate modes throw grains onto the nodal lines, drawing Chladni figures that form and re-form; the cursor bows, touches or taps the plate. Use for science, sound and abstract scenes.
Sea Sparkle
Bioluminescent plankton that flash when the water shears: swell orbits, excitable cells that tire and recover, moon glitter; the cursor is a hand, falling pebbles or a hunting fish. Use for night sea and fantasy scenes.
Sunbeam Dust
Dust drifting in window light: Langevin motion in Kolmogorov turbulence, mullion shadows, forward scattering, glints and bokeh; the cursor is a hand, a torch or a charged rod. Use for interiors and cinematic scenes.
Quantum Orbitals
A hydrogen electron cloud as Bohmian trajectories: a superposition of two orbitals breathing at the Bohr frequency, coloured by quantum phase; the cursor is a photon, a magnet or a detector. Use for science and tech scenes.
Fireworks
An aerial fireworks show: 20 real shell types, shaped shells, formations and text written in the sky, with drag-limited stars, cooling sparks and lit smoke; fires on its own or where you click. Use for celebrations, New Year and night-sky scenes.
Grinder Sparks
Slow-motion grinder sparks: drag-limited ballistics, radiative cooling on the blackbody scale, carbon bursts, floor bounces and reflections; the cursor moves the grinder, aims the spray or sweeps the air. Use for industrial and cinematic scenes.
Works well with
Aura Glow
An aura glow cursor: a soft iridescent halo with electric tendrils that follows the mouse. For wellness, magic and dreamy scenes.
CursorComet Trail
A 3D comet cursor: a glowing head with a fading tail of light that follows the mouse across your scene. For space, sci-fi and night sites.
CursorDissolve
Burn any 3D object away along a glowing edge, then grow it back. A dissolve effect for clicks, hovers, entrances and exits.
Object effectEnergy Orb
An energy orb cursor: a small boiling sun with iridescent plasma shells that follows the mouse. For sci-fi, energy and magic scenes.
CursorFerrofluid
A ferrofluid cursor: a glossy blob of magnetic liquid that grows spikes in the direction you move the mouse. For science, tech and dark luxury.
CursorGlow
Light the targets up with an emissive glow
