Glow lights an object up from within. Its surface takes on a self-lit colour, so it reads as a lamp, a neon sign or a charged object rather than something lit by the scene. It fades in when switched on and fades back to the object's original look when switched off.

How it works

The effect adds light to the object's own surface in the colour you choose and eases it up to the chosen strength. While it is on, that glow is kept out of the scene's usual brightness compression, so strong colours stay vivid instead of washing out to white. That also means a high intensity pushes the object past normal brightness, which is exactly what Bloom picks up to spread a halo around it. It works on the object's standard lit surfaces.

Settings

  • Colour: the colour of the glow.
  • Intensity: how bright it gets; low values tint, high values make it shine.
  • Duration: how long it takes to fade on, and to fade off.

Use it for

Hover highlights and selected states, buttons and hotspots, neon signs, sci-fi panels, lanterns, magic items and anything that should look powered on. Run it on hover or click (triggering again switches it off), in an action or animation, or keep it on the object. Pair it with Pulse for a light that breathes, or with Rim light for an outline as well.
