Dunes
A placeable patch of sand dunes: asymmetric wind-driven ridges with gentle windward and steep slip faces, easing down to its base at the edge. Footprint is the object's scale. Use for desert spots, beaches and Mars scenes.

Dunes is a patch of sand dunes you place in a scene like any other object: rows of wind-shaped ridges with a long gentle side and a short steep face, easing down to its base at the edges. The object's scale is the footprint, so the same patch works as a little sand garden or a stretch of desert.
How it works
The patch uses the same landscape model as the scene's endless terrain, cut to a footprint you control. Dunes form across the wind, so the crests line up at right angles to a wind direction you set. Like real dunes they are lopsided: a long ramp on the side the wind comes from and a short slip face on the side it blows toward. The sand is paler on the crests and has a soft sheen when the sun is low.
Settings
- Shape and Ground: pick a landform such as Erg, Barchan field, Coastal dunes, Red desert or Salt flat, and a ground such as Desert sand, Red rock or Salt flat.
- Size, Height, Ruggedness and Rock & snow: the quick sliders.
- Bearing: the wind direction, which turns the whole row of crests.
- Dune Wavelength and Dune Asymmetry: crest-to-crest spacing, and how steep the slip faces are.
- Edge fade: how softly the patch meets its base.
Use it for
Desert spots, beaches, Mars scenes, travel and fragrance campaigns. Add a Sandstorm over it, or see Canyon.
Code and API
Ready-to-paste React Three Fiber code and the 3DRise API are included in paid plans, inside the studio.
More land
Canyon
A placeable patch of canyon country: stratified mesas cut by a branching incised channel network, easing down to its base at the edge. Footprint is the object's scale. Use for red-rock deserts, western and Mars scenes.
Hills
A placeable patch of rolling hills: soft, domain-warped downland under grass and meadow, easing down to its base at the edge. Footprint is the object's scale. Use for countryside, parks and gentle dioramas.
Mountains
A placeable patch of mountain land: ridged, eroded peaks with slope rock and a snow line, easing down to its base at the edge. Footprint is the object's scale. Use for alpine backdrops, islands of peaks and dioramas.
Works well with
Sand
Procedural sand for any 3D surface: wind ripples that crawl downwind, glinting grains, ten looks from Sahara gold to Moon dust and a raked zen garden.
MaterialCirrus Thick
Thicker cirrus clouds with reduced transparency and more visible cloud structure
EffectCloud
Animated procedural cloud materials for any 3D surface: bright, sunset, dawn, stormy and overcast skies with silver linings and light rays.
MaterialSahara Dune
Golden desert sand for 3D scenes: wind-combed ripples crawling downwind under a high, dry sun, with grains that glint.
SandSand erosion
Turn a 3D object to sand that crumbles grain by grain into a mound, or keep it as a sand sculpture. Reverse pours it back up.
Object effectSky Clouds Bright
Bright white animated clouds over a clear sky, with no extra lighting effects. A calm daytime cloud backdrop for any 3D scene.
