Sand erosion turns an object to sand and lets it crumble. First the surface becomes a warm, grainy, matte crust that keeps a trace of the object's colour. Then it breaks away grain by grain along a darker, damp-looking edge, with no glow at all. The grains slide off, drop faster and faster, and pile into a cone-shaped mound around the base. Reversed, every grain flies back up to its exact spot and the surface closes.

How it works

The pile really builds: grains that fall first lie lower and later ones land on top, and the mound stays while the effect is on. With Disappear off, which is how it starts when you keep it on an object, the whole object turns to sand and stays that way: a crust of grains that shimmers while a faint wind ripple drifts across it.

Settings

- Disappear: on to crumble the object away, off to keep it as a sand sculpture. - Grains and Grain size: 45,000 grains by default, up to 150,000. - Mound height and Mound width: the shape of the pile. - Sand: the sand colour. Object colour sets how much of the original colour the sand keeps. - Direction: top to bottom by default. - Duration: 3.2 seconds.

Use it for

Desert and time themes, an hourglass moment, a statue that erodes. Set it on a Sahara Dune ground, or leave crumbling copies behind a moving object with the Sand trail.
