Plasma Discharge

Plasma Discharge turns the letters into live electricity. A white-hot arc runs along every outline inside a violet glow, branching streamers fork off into the air like a Lichtenberg figure, and pulses of current keep travelling along the channels.

How it works

The letter outlines are the main channels. Streamers are grown from them, leaving most often from corners and the ends of strokes, where a real electric field is strongest, and forking into finer branches as they spread out. Branches never cross. The default Draw, Strike, races the arc round each letter from its sharpest point, with the streamers shooting out behind it. At rest, current pulses keep flowing and the outer streamers breathe in length. The erase lets the channels cool into a fading magenta afterglow.

Settings

• Branching sets how many streamers fork off, Reach how far they go, and Branchiness whether they run straight or wander into bushy forks.
• Glow sets the halo, Core width the white-hot arc, and Current pulses how strong the travelling pulses are.
• Emission lines adds an orange-red tinge to the hottest channels and the afterglow.
• Plasma and Hot core set the halo colour and the fresh-strike colour.
• Seed gives a different streamer layout.
