Fire sets an object alight. In Tongues mode, flames spring up over its surface, thickest and tallest toward the top where fire climbs; in Crown mode, one large flame sits on top like a campfire or a torch. Without an object it burns as a single free-standing flame.

How it works

Each flame is a tapered sheet that always turns to face the camera. Inside it, swirling noise is pushed upward and folded on itself, which gives the licking, breaking-up motion of real flames, and the tip sways more than the base. The colour comes from temperature: the hottest parts burn yellow-white, the cooler edges orange and red, with a faint blue at the base and a soft orange halo around the body. Every tongue has its own timing, so no two flames move together. With Light on, the fire also casts a warm, gently flickering light on the scene around it.

Settings

  • Mode: Tongues or Crown.
  • Tongues and Coverage: how many flames, and how far down the object they reach.
  • Turbulence: how much the flame breaks up into separate licks.
  • Sway: the side-to-side lean.
  • Tint: colours the flame, from natural orange to a magical blue or green.
  • Height Scale and Radius Scale: flame size relative to the object.
  • Light: the flickering light, on or off.
