The Dodecahedron is a solid made of twelve pentagons, one of the five Platonic solids. It is the shape of a twelve-sided die, a faceted gemstone and countless geometric logos, and it reads as rounder than a cube while still showing clear facets.

Shape settings

  • Radius sets the size.
  • Detail (0 to 5) subdivides the faces. At 0 you get the twelve flat pentagons; each step splits the surface further and pushes it outward, so higher values turn it into a faceted ball and then a near sphere.

Display modes and materials

Solid shows the facets, which catch light one at a time as the object turns. Edges draws only the sharp edges between faces, a clean line drawing of the solid; Wireframe also shows the triangles inside each face. Vertices puts a point on each corner, and Plexus links scattered points into a network. Any material goes on it: amethyst or diamond crystal for a gem, gold for a precious object, matte plastic for a die.

Use it for

  • Twelve-sided dice and tabletop game visuals
  • Gem and crystal compositions
  • Science, maths and sacred-geometry graphics
