Shatter breaks an object into pieces. Cracks spread along a front and glow just before a piece lets go, then the object comes apart into rigid chunks that spin, fly outward from its centre, fall under gravity and shrink away. Reversed, the shards fly back and the surface seals.
How it works
The object is split into cells around points scattered over its surface, so it breaks into real chunks rather than dust, and each chunk turns on its own random axis about its own centre. By default the break starts at the centre and moves out; it can also open in scattered patches or sweep up, down, left or right. Trigger it on a click, run it from an action, or keep it on the object as its exit.
Settings
- Pieces: how many chunks, from 8 big slabs to 400 small fragments. 90 by default. - Crack colour: the glow in the cracks before they open. Ice blue by default. - Force: how hard the shards are thrown outward. - Gravity: how fast they fall. At 0 the shards drift off as if in space. - Crack pattern and Direction: where the cracks run and in which order the pieces let go. - Duration: 2.4 seconds.
Use it for
Impact moments, a glass product breaking on click, game-like reveals, a title that bursts apart before the next scene. Leave breaking copies behind a moving object with the Shatter trail, or give the object a glass material for a crystal-clear break.
More object effects
Blast off
Crouch, then launch straight up and out of the scene — it comes back with a powered landing: falls in, brakes hard, hovers, touches down
Object effectCurl smoke
Turn a 3D object into soft smoke that swirls away in eddies, or keep it as living smoke in its own shape.
Object effectEmber ash
Burn a 3D object to charcoal and pale ash that the wind blows away in flakes, then un-burn it. A realistic fire exit effect.
Object effectFly-by
Takes off, banks and flies past the camera — it comes back from behind the camera on the other side and sets down in place
Object effectKnock away
Struck from the side: it flies off on an arc, tumbling by where it was hit — tall things tip, flat ones skim; it is thrown back in and lands with a hop
Object effectLiquid metal
Turn a 3D object to polished chrome and melt it into a rippling pool, or keep it as chrome. Reverse pulls it back into shape.
Object effectWorks well with
Prism
The picture printed across a row of slim triangular prisms; a change turns each prism a third of a turn in a travelling wave, its faces passing through the scene light, to show the next picture. Use for signage, retail, product and campaign heroes.
ImageShield
A solid heraldic shield: flat top, straight sides and a curved point, with adjustable width. Use for security, gaming, sports and crest visuals.
ShapeShockwave
A Sedov–Taylor blast wave: a razor-bright front over a compressed shell that bursts out, slows and cools, raising dust and a brief condensation dome. Use for explosions, impacts, sci-fi pulses.
EffectSmokey Glass
Dark smokey glass with reduced transparency, perfect for mystery and dramatic effects
GlassAcrylic
Clear acrylic with a smooth, reflective surface. For display cases, signs, award blocks and transparent product parts.
PlasticAdvanced
Five advanced 3D materials: a mirror floor, refraction, see-through transmission glass, and two surfaces that distort or wobble the shape in motion.
