Shockwave

A Sedov–Taylor blast wave: a razor-bright front over a compressed shell that bursts out, slows and cools, raising dust and a brief condensation dome. Use for explosions, impacts, sci-fi pulses.

Shockwave sends blast waves out from an object: a razor-bright front that bursts out fast, slows down and cools from blue-white to the rim colour, raising a skirt of dust as it passes and leaving a brief misty dome behind.

How it works

The fronts follow the physics of a point explosion: they race out at first and then coast, covering less and less ground as they spread. The swept-up gas gathers in a thin shell, sharp on the outside and softer behind. Its temperature follows its speed, so it starts blue-white and cools as it slows. Dust on the ground is thrown up and out as the front reaches it, then settles, and a short-lived haze forms just behind the shock before it evaporates. The blast spreads either as a ring on the ground or as a sphere for mid-air explosions.

Settings

  • Shape Num: 0 for a ground ring, 1 for a spherical shell.
  • Ring Count and Interval Seconds: how many fronts are alive, and how often they launch.
  • Expansion Radius and Thickness: how far a front reaches, and how wide it is.
  • Deceleration: from constant speed to a true burst and coast.
  • Instability, Dust and Condensation: the wobble, the debris and the haze.
  • Color (the flash and the hottest front) and Rim Color.
