The Torus is a donut: a round tube bent into a ring. It is a ring, a lifebuoy, a tyre, a halo with thickness, and one of the best shapes for showing off a material, since its curves catch light inside and out.

Shape settings

  • Radius sets the size of the ring, from its centre to the middle of the tube.
  • Tube sets how thick the tube is. Thin values give a wire ring; values close to the radius close the hole into a fat donut.
  • Radial segments sets how round the tube's cross-section is: low values make it square or triangular.
  • Tubular segments (3 to 200) sets how many steps go around the ring; low values give a polygonal frame.

Display modes and materials

Solid shows the donut. Wireframe draws its grid of rings, the classic 3D donut look, and Contours stacks horizontal slices. Surface and Plexus turn it into a ring of particles or a network. Any material goes on it: gold for a wedding ring, glossy plastic for a pool float, clear glass for a glass loop. For a flat ring, use the Ring.

Use it for

  • Rings, halos and loops
  • Donuts and playful food scenes
  • Abstract compositions and material showcases
