Glitch throws short bursts of digital corruption across the picture: blocks of the image slip sideways and the frame breaks up, then everything settles again. It is the look of a failing video signal or a hacked screen, used on purpose.

How it works

The effect waits a random time between about one and a half and three and a half seconds, glitches for up to a second, then goes quiet again. The scene stays readable most of the time and each glitch arrives as an event, which is what keeps it from becoming tiring to watch.

Settings

  • Intensity: the strength of each glitch, from a light flicker to a heavy break-up of the frame.
  • Columns: the size of the blocky slices the frame breaks into during a glitch.

Use it for

Tech launches, gaming, cyber and hacker themes, music visuals and transitions with an edge. The Cyberpunk preset combines it with strong bloom, Chromatic Aberration and saturated, hue-shifted colour. It pairs well with a Hologram effect, a Neon Tube title or the Hologram scan object effect. Glitch is loud: keep the intensity low on pages where people need to read, and save higher values for short moments such as an intro.
